The Loukoumi are sweet cubes with flour and sugar flavored with different tastes like, rose water, lemon, cinnamon, mint, almonds and mixed fruit. According to tradition, should be composed of 99% sugar and, as if this were not enough, it is also covered by a fine layer of icing sugar.

Loukoumi Recipe:


  • Gelatin – 3 Tablespoon
  • Food coloring – 3 Drop (Use Red Or Green)
  • Cold water – 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
  • Hot water – 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
  • Sugar – 2 Cup (32 tbs)
  • Confectioner’s sugar – 1 Tablespoon
  • Orange – 1 , juiced
  • Grated orange rind – 1
  • Pistachio nuts/Toasted almonds – 1 Tablespoon



Soften gelatin in cold water.

Combine sugar and hot water and heat to boiling.

Add softened gelatin and simmer for 20 minutes.

Add orange juice and rind and coloring.

Strain into loaf pan.

The pan should be large enough so that the mixture is from 1/2 to 1 inch deep.

Add nuts if desired.

Chill until firm.

When cold turn onto a board, cut into cubes, and roll in confectioners’ sugar.
